Podium Bottle Cleaning

These are my favorite bottles for cycling and everyday water use. I've been using them for years and have never had any issues with leaking, priming, bad water taste or fitting into a standard bottle cage. I currently have 2 Weil CF cages and the bottles fit perfectly. This is probably my 8th set I've bought. I'm posting this to show others how to clean the top. If you use anything other than water in them (especially those with sugar content) they will get uncomfortable pretty quickly if not kept clean. Even if only water is used, they can mold over time, especially in humid climates. The molded rubber piece can be removed from the top of the bottle cap. Once removed, you will see that the rubber part contains a plastic insert. Take it out to clean. To separate the plastic part from the rubber cover, you need to "unroll" a little. Once you do that you will see what I mean. It becomes easy once you get the hang of it. When parts are moldy they sometimes tend to collect under the 4 slots in the plastic insert. You can usually use a toothpick or small pointed object to clean the area of dirt. If you want a really good clean leave it in vinegar overnight then it will be easier to rinse it all off. Be careful not to lose the small O-ring on the bottom of the plastic insert. It must be pressed firmly against the insert before it is reinserted into the rubber moulding. After cleaning the insert and the rubber piece, put the insert back into the rubber. Make sure it is installed correctly, the cylindrical tube should be pointing straight down. Then you need to put the rubber piece (with insert) back on top of the bottle. Twist it to make sure it's in place. When the bottles are new, it may take a little effort to install them properly. With regular use, the rubber top drinking valve will stay clean and ready for use for years. I have attached some photos for reference. Great bottles.
