Lesson 101 is about how to deal with a sneaky mail thief.

I bought this post box in early December 2018 after mail was stolen from a traditional open post box. That's cool. The combination lock works well. The numbers you dial can easily be changed. High quality steel. It's well done. Mine was installed on the brick outside my front door which required drilling through the brickwork. There are four holes to attach this mailbox. For one thing, I doubt it's easy to tear off even with a crowbar. It came with screws and anchors. If you have junk mail and it arrives in bulk, it won't fit in the mail slot. Sometimes my carrier puts them in the slot, which is annoying when I come home and see a packet of advertising newspaper sticking out of the letter slot. This mailbox requires hooks under the drawer for 3rd class mail such as B. Newsprint for weekly groceries. CURRENTLY. The bad news. Most lockable mailboxes have a design flaw. Always look for the location of the lock as that is where the pawl is located, which is the mechanism that locks and unlocks your mailbox. With this special mailbox, the latch of the lock is inside the post flap. The locking lever is easily accessible by simply opening the mail delivery slot and prying the lever open with a tool. The lever is in a vertical position when locked, so it's very easy for a thief to do this. I opened the door two weeks after installation to find the front panel hanging open and the thief wrapped mail in the mailbox. This was his big fuck to me for trying to foil his criminal trash ass. My response was to post his name across town and send another report to the USPS inspectors. So. Excellent mailbox. The moral of the story is that locking mailboxes gives the illusion of security. For very serious bad situations, you need a USPS box.
