I decided to clean up my abandoned reef tank after YEARS of doing nothing but keeping the ATO tank full. Dropped nitrates from over 160 to zero in a few months with aggressive (50%) weekly water changes and an upgraded large skimmer. The perfect recipe for a quick nutrient cut for a dinoflagellate outbreak, and that's exactly what happened. I mixed the cap with 2 cups of aquarium water and placed in the sump/display of my 30g/10g for 5 days. According to the instructions I turned off the skimmer for 4 hours, no lights on for the first 2 days and fed daily rather than every 3rd day like I did. The dyno flare was completely gone in 3 days! I know it's not sold specifically for this or for cleaning, and I've never been a big proponent of dosing bacteria, especially in an aquarium like mine that's been running (albeit neglected) for over ten years, starting with REAL live ones Fijian rocks (when they were imported and it was available) and there were enough new coral additions to add a variety of bacteria BUT that actually seems to be doing something noticeable to me.
