Review on IWISS iCrimp Combo Pex Pipe Crimping Tool for Copper Ring with Gauge - 1/2 and 3/4-inch, ASTM 1807 Standard by Matthew Kocur

Best value I could find

For a homeowner who doesn't do plumbing every day, this worked really well. I ran Pex in my basement for bathroom plumbing using this tool. I've worked with it both 1/2 and 3/4 and it worked fine in both cases. I have more work to do so I'll update if there are any issues, but for now this is a budget tool. I tested the crimp on a few beforehand to make sure it didn't need adjustment. I went ahead and set it to the hardest setting and the gauge showed these were good crimps. If you have experience with a Go/Nogo gauge then there was no confusion. I understand most people need clearer instructions, but I thought they were easy. The line on the pressure gauge must be aligned with the center line of the hose. less you need more crimp when it goes through the line and you need less crimp. Adjustment was easy with a wrench. The effort involved in using the tool was not unreasonable. Of course, longer arms would make things easier, but I like the compactness of this instrument. A few general tips for working with Plexiglas tubing that I learned along the way: - I didn't buy a ring remover and had to cut off some of the rings. I used a large pair of wire cutters with some elbow grease and it worked. I personally wouldn't spend money on a removal tool anyway. PLAN what you are working on before you start crimping. One of the above cuts was due to me crimping a piece and then realizing I couldn't place the tool where I needed it to crimp the next leg. - After crimping you have the option to rotate the fitting, although it doesn't seem like a good idea to do much, good to know. - Buy a few more fittings than you need, don't open them until you use them, return the excess. It would have saved me a trip to the home depot in the middle of a project. it's 3 days and no water leaking!
