This mattress pad was delivered a few hours ago, and I have not yet put it on the guest bed mattress. One reviewer had written that the pad had a strong, offensive odor when new and that it took four launderings to reduce the odor to a tolerable degree before it could be used. Although the description of the pad fit all of my criteria, I was hesitant to place the order but decided to take a chance. Immediately out of its plastic packing bag, I detected no odor at all. Completely odorless, and I have a sensitive nose. I buy a mattress pad to protect the mattress, as well as to hide the mattress that has survived several moves and years on the guest bed. Loft is not among my criteria. 100% cotton on top and bottom is getting increasingly difficult to find; either predominantly polyester or !00% polyester seems to be a trend. This cotton is soft and soundless, not crinkly. I have no reservations about what I consider to be excellent value for the price. As a bonus, it comes packed in a recyclable and handy well-constructed heavy plastic bag with a two-way zipper that wraps around the length and both sides and a substantial carry handle. I recommend this product. If one is seeking a lofty mattress pad, this is not the one for you. I estimate its thickness as not more than 3/4 inch, and probably less. To me, that is an advantage.
