Cheap screen that actually works well

I was very impressed with the quality of this stereo. There are a few quirks as you would expect from any super cheap radio. Pros: FM tuner works well, intuitive controls - Bluetooth calls/connects to my iPhone works well. Without delay. The microphone seems to work fine. Screen mirroring works when plugged in (no touchscreen). Apple Car Play works when connected via USB. Works separately with Bluetooth playback. Play Bluetooth music and automatically call/link Siri on startup. You can make calls from this field. Quick link on side button to Siri. The volume slider is pretty handy compared to other devices where you're trying to move a bar or something just on the screen. You can control the volume with the knob/screen/iPhone (when playing music) - Super cheap - The included rear camera is decent. The cable is a bit short and not suitable for my application. I ended up using another generic camera from Amazon which worked fine. The sound quality is impressive compared to my 2001 head unit which it replaced. Cons: The rear camera overrides all onscreen functionality. For some reason it also lowers the volume even though the volume down option is not selected (tried both ways). It's a bit annoying when you're on a call and can't even use the volume wheel to turn up the volume. - The rear camera cable is quite short. can work great in a car or short pickup truck. The good news is that this is a universal RCA rear camera cable. The Apple Car Play screen (when connected) is only on the side (see image). Works well for maps and messages. Slightly different than looking at the phone screen. - Apple Car Play is only available when connected to the network. Also has limited app access to Messages, Phone, Music and Maps/Google Maps. Maybe it's normal, but it seemed strange to me. - Amazon recommended mount does not fit. - Hole size larger than standard double din mount. I ended up cutting out the dash about 1/4" to fit. There is no mount with this thing so good luck. I just have to use very high tack double sided tape around the perimeter. Works fine for me , but not perfect. Manual waste. I might as well throw it in the trash. The connection diagram in the manual does not match the contacts on the device itself. You need a magnifying glass to connect it to the micro sticker on the back. All in all, this $125 thing revolves around my buddies, a few years for $1,000 There are a few issues that need addressing, but I still recommend this one.

Pros
  • Car video
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
