I was trying to make this speaker replacement cheap, so for the faceplates I used factory plastic speaker brackets to mount 6.5" speakers using #8 5/8 sheet metal screws and a 1/8" pilot hole . The first ones I tried (SSL EX365) had a mounting hole size of nearly 5 3/4 inches and didn't fit properly. Rather than try to hack them, I found another pair of speakers sold by Fry that claim the size of the mounting hole. 5.59", and they fit perfectly. Not every manufacturer specifies the size of the mounting hole, it is better to take this adapter to the store first and try it.
