CONTEXT: I've been using Apple Airport Extreme for a long time and decided to upgrade to WiFi 6, beamforming, more LAN ports and link aggregation. Spend all day setting up your new router with the ONLY instruction - use the app. I've encountered almost every error the app can give me with no information on how to solve them. Here are some of the cons: - The app forces you to create a Netgear account. I see no reason why this is necessary other than for marketing reasons. - The app makes you wait 5 minutes after being prompted to turn on the router before trying to connect, although the route turns on much faster, and every time the initial setup fails I have to wait that 5 minutes. minutes over and over again. - First time setup failed for me with no explanation or solution information. You need to google yourself and factory reset the router. The initial setup finally went through without changing either the default SSID or password, or changing any other settings. The app will ask you to log in to the router with your fingerprint. Logging in with your fingerprint fails every time (request "wrong password"). - The application crashes from time to time for no reason. Sometimes the app would get stuck on the title screen on launch for no reason. The app lacks options to configure basic router functions like IP address reservation, link aggregation, port forwarding, etc. Good luck with your Google search. how to set them up! - Once you have figured out how to configure the router from a browser window, the router must be restarted for each changed setting! Need to change the SSID and password? Reload! Do you need to enable link aggregation? Reload! Need to reserve an IP address? Reload! WHY can't I save all my settings and apply them on reboot? However, after a lengthy initial setup, the router has been working flawlessly for at least 12 hours. AX is great, Gigabit LAN seems more or less on par as before. Overall, the router is working as expected so far, but I wouldn't recommend it based on first impressions. We'll have to see how it behaves over time.
