Review on ๐Ÿ”Š Fosi Audio TDA7498E: Hi-Fi Class D Amplifier for Passive Speakers - 160W x 2 + 24V Power Supply by Jhun Skaggs

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Seems too good to be true: small, powerful, inexpensive, well built

I bought this to create a counterpart to Sonos for a fraction of the price. I'm using Chromecast Audio as an input to an amplifier (which requires a mini-jack to RCA adapter). The amplifier drives 2 pairs of ceiling speakers. So for about $100 I have a system that is (almost) as good as a system that is at least 5 times more expensive. BENEFITS* It comes in a box with die-cut foam for each component. . The box fully protects its contents from rough handling during transport.* The amplifier's body is made of metal, which gives it a feeling of reliability and high quality. Despite being simple and inexpensive, it gives the impression of a quality audio device.* I was pleasantly surprised by its small size.* Although there are no tone (bass/treble) controls, I don't miss them. My speakers are fine and don't need help. (I'd like them to boost the bass when playing very loud bass-heavy music, but I doubt it.)* The available power is impressive. It has enough power for 2 pairs of speakers and the volume can be way louder than anything I've ever wanted. * For what you get, the price is very low. CONS * I don't like the spark when I plug it in. This is a well-known property, so I wasn't surprised. And it's not dangerous, although it looks bad. (I turn the volume all the way down before turning the amp on.) What difference does it make how often you turn it on?* I don't like that the red light is on even when the amp is off. . It's a well-known feature so I wasn't surprised, but I wish it was green when the amp was actually on. In the end I am very satisfied. If I decide to install similar systems in other rooms that already have ceiling speakers, I will definitely purchase this amp again. EDITI bought two more of these amps and they are amazing.
