Great for adding Atmos speakers

Needed two additional channels of amplification to power my Atmos setup with 4 speakers (top front and top rear), 11 speakers total. I've heard others use this amp for Atmos so I gave it a try. The build quality appears to be good and the RCA connectors and speaker mounts are top notch. This amp puts out enough power to rival my main amp and I can't tell any difference in sound between the upper front and upper rear speakers. The volume control is set at approximately 60% to match the main…

Download the Kasbah! with this miniature amp

What can I say in terms of value for money, this amp hits the park. For me it drove my OE6 Speakercraft OE6 model. The thing rocks. Clean, clear and too loud when turned on. The amp has a premium feel and look. pleasant smoothness on the volume control. The amplifier is small, so the speaker connection is very tight. I highly recommend fitting your speaker wire with banana plugs, which makes the connection much easier. It is not clear how many watts the amp is exactly. Claimed 160 per channel…

Sparks fly when plugged in. Angry hum from AC powered music sources

Amplifiers shouldn't spark. It looks like the design has serious AC isolation issues, and you don't want it next to something that could easily ignite. I've been using and repairing audio amplifiers for decades and have never seen one so bad. If it had huge filter capacitors (the size of a beer can) you might expect a little pop when you plug it in, but this is a Class D amp with tiny capacitors. This lack of AC line isolation is also accompanied by intolerable noise when connected to another…

  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Almost never

I had some doubts that such a small amp could produce a decent sound, but my wife did asked me to find something to replace the full size stereo receiver I was using with my JBL floorstanding speakers. Other reviews were positive so I decided to give it a try. I'm frankly passed out. When it arrived it was even smaller than the pictures led me to believe - it fits in the palm of my hand. I put it on top of one of the two speakers and there's enough room for an iPod and a cable to connect them…

I daresay. Audiophile Quality Amplifier for $70?

I'm a certified vintage audio engineer, so I was extremely skeptical about the sound quality of something like this modern Chinese import with an (ah!) Class D amplifier chip devices ( Marantz, McIntosh, Dynaco etc) were made before 1977 and I love the smooth sound of my systems. Either way. I bought this amp because I needed something small and portable to troubleshoot a Marantz 2270 receiver that was making annoying static noise at low volume. I hooked up the 2270's preamp output to this…

Seems too good to be true: small, powerful, inexpensive, well built

I bought this to create a counterpart to Sonos for a fraction of the price. I'm using Chromecast Audio as an input to an amplifier (which requires a mini-jack to RCA adapter). The amplifier drives 2 pairs of ceiling speakers. So for about $100 I have a system that is (almost) as good as a system that is at least 5 times more expensive. BENEFITS* It comes in a box with die-cut foam for each component. . The box fully protects its contents from rough handling during transport.* The amplifier's…

Great machine but not 160 watts per channel RMS in the real world

Great little Class D amp that can drive an Elac Uni-Fi UB5 set much louder than I can in my apartment can hear. I didn't want to find room on my desk for a large receiver or built-in amplifier, so I took a chance. The STMicro TDA7498E (not TI as stated in the description) amplifier chip met my power and THD requirements. After checking the data sheet against the popular TI TPA3116 component, it seemed to me to be the best component. The aluminum profile case looks elegant and durable. It pairs…

Incredible amount of power in a tiny box

Let me start by saying that I rarely post Revain reviews. I think I ordered the item, I received it, it does what it promises, that's all. But so far the performance of this little amp has been unexpected. I needed an amplifier to power the speakers in zone 2 as my receiver only provides a line out for zone 2. Zone 2 has two Polk TSi 100 speakers, they're not big, but they're not tiny either. They are 8 ohms and the specs say they should run at 20-100 watts. I've read a lot about possible…

An excellent digital amplifier when you consider its true limitations.

The Fosi TDA7498E is an improvement over previous Tripath chip amplifiers. It puts out more power, sounds cleaner and has excellent clarity and rhythm - if you respect its limitations and use it with the right accessories - by which I mean very sensitive speakers. This is my fourth Tripath style Class D amp and each one has been better than the last. The whole concept is that the Texas Instrumentation chip converts the signal into an amplification stage right on the silicon and the chip itself…
