I got the Crimper315 kit a few years ago when I started tearing up the walls upstairs in hopes that one day I could run the cables through the attic and up the walls were connected to the . some. Now, a few years later, I pull out and shrug off this kit and sit down to re-educate myself about why I bought this stuff and how I should use it to connect to an Ethernet network . I was very relieved to find that this kit has almost all the tools I need. The tester was very easy to use. This allowed me to test the connectors I had attached to both ends of the Category 5e cables to make sure they were valid. This in turn allowed me to make some small test cords and use the remote to recheck the cords I once dropped, now that I've finally gotten them into the jacks and patch panel. It convinced me that I could collect everything in the basement - and not have to crawl back into the attic insulation to replace something. So for me the tester was huge. (Note that this requires a 5 volt battery not included.) The crimping tool proved to be a bit of an issue. I've found that too much compression can damage the connector. Looking at the connectors from the front, I also saw that at least one of the wires was consistently crimped slightly higher than the others. However, the tester said they would work, and the network I'm currently using is proof of that. the cutting part of another tool to remove the skin. It turned out sharper than I expected and lets say a careful twist and a half might damage the internal wires. So in general, almost all the tools you need to put together an inexpensive home network on a budget. I had no idea how this all worked when I threw the box away and I have no plans to use it in the future other than to make custom length cables to connect devices. So for the pure amateur squeezing a few cards, maybe plugging in some gear in the Blue Moon Vista one day, this kit was really great value.
