Legendary Cooler

8700k (overclocked), 10600k (stock) and above. The 212 used to be a great cooler to pair with legendary CPUs like 2600k, 4690k etc. However, I tried pairing a stock i9-9900k with Mugen 5 and running the CPU at 100% CPU utilization. Prices will go up in the 90s until the TB feature stops. The CPU runs at 3.6GHz and the CPU power consumption drops to around 95W. It's funny how it works. The 9900k performed much better with my EVGA 280clc with the fans on and it runs at least from 4.5GHz to 4.7GHz because the 280clc was able to keep up. I know there are people on some forums claiming that 212 is more than enough for the 9900k because the 9900k has a TDP of 95W and the 212 has more than 95W cooling capacity, but the 9900k is very much to blame for that that it has insane power consumption that exceeds what the 212 is capable of. Now the Mugen 5 and 280clc outperform the 212 so the 212 will NOT work well with a power consuming CPU like the 9900k. Big. I can easily overclock the 5775c to 4.0GHz with no power spikes and the 212 is holding up great. The 212 used to be a great value cooler and for the price you couldn't beat it. I remember recommending it to people when the Core i5-2500k was the main processor for a gaming PC. However, once these processors began to draw more than 150 watts when overclocked, the 212 lost its shine. Now some of these processors consume 250W when all cores are running at default speed. The 212 will go down in history as the best cooler of the quad-core era. If I had to build a 2010 decade PC capsule I would combine a z77 or z68 Sabertooth, a 2600k, maybe a GTX 970 or maybe a 670 and a Cooler Master 212.

Pros
  • Snap and Play: Intuitive fan bracket design makes fan replacement and removal easy
Cons
  • Slightly Crumpled
