This is not like a simple open/close dry/wet loop. Must use floodstop resistance measurement. I bought to connect to my alarm system's transmitters which can work with a simple normally open/normally closed circuit. I checked the continuity of the water supply and it stayed closed both dry and wet, so my only guess is that the flood protection device is measuring the changing resistance in ohms to determine if water is present. It says it's for a flood protection device so I can't help it, but there was an 'answer' or 'review' that said it was a simple open/closed circuit and that's why I did bought it. Unfortunately, I waited too long to return it and the return period has now expired. I'll try to sell them online I think.
