UPDATE. returned and tried again. My wife loves this design and I can't find anything else. I will say that the 2nd was not much better, but slightly less curved. At that point I just said hell with it and started trying to just bend my arms back into place. They really didn't move, but I kept walking. They're not straight and never will be, but it's close enough to live with co-spiders, the light is only about $22. I hate it and it was a huge pain and not worth it but the woman is happy. So it's all over. First, the stupid strut was very difficult to mount and the screws were too long for the round screw caps. The mounting holes are further apart than the standard brackets, so the included bracket has holes that other mounting brackets don't. Not a big deal, but my light box only has left and right screw holes, not top and bottom. Well, this mount had to be installed backwards for it to work. It was really odd and not at all the standard spacing for these mounting screws. Disappointment to say the least. If they're further apart they fall off the edge of the light box so they can't be pushed back in, meaning the full length of the screw is sticking out once the light is installed, which is way too far for the small decorative metal ball nuts . go all the way to the plate. Even worse. After going insane trying to figure out a way to do this, I lined everything up only to see that the light was bent crookedly. It looks awful and I will probably send it back.
