Review on Noctua NH-L9i, High-Performance Low-Profile CPU Cooler for Intel LGA115x (Brown) by Mark Ponnusamy

Pleased with the order - Disappointed after installation

Built a mini-ITX system in an In-Win Chopin case (which is very suitable for this purpose). I used the stock Intel i5 8400 CPU fan and it was around 34C when idling. I read all the great reviews on the Noctua NH-L9i and when I opened the box I saw the quality and attention to detail. I installed it and got 36/37C at idle. I thought it couldn't be, maybe I didn't install it correctly? After 3 attempts to adjust this with Noctua thermal paste I still get a standby temperature of 36/37°C. Now I will say one thing. It's almost silent except when I'm running the Cinebench CPU benchmark. Then the temperature rose to 77 degrees and eventually reached 80 degrees. The temperatures drop quickly after the test, so I like that too. I'm disappointed. I was hoping to drop the idle temp a few degrees and lower the temp under load. I hope this helps someone. I really wanted to like it. I'll probably keep it if I don't find a better cooler in the next day or two. If I let it, it's for the smoothness and time it's about as good as a standard collar.
