Review on AmazonBasics Portable Radiator Heater Control by Motogp Portillo

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Little things spoil this otherwise decent heater

I'm amazed at how a few forgotten features make this unit terrible. First, it seems to heat up well, and it's quiet once warmed up, so that's decent. In addition, the overall user experience is at a low level. I wouldn't recommend it over much better competitors. I really wanted this machine to be good. I really did. But that's not the case. This device only has a few basic functions, so I find it incredible that they made such a mistake. Here's what I found poorly implemented: 1) When the device turns off, it resets completely and forgets the temperature and heating settings. If you want to turn it off in another room before bed, you'll have to set the temperature and mode again the next day. And the next. And the next. This is an unacceptable user experience. 2) When the power fails or runs out, the device forgets everything even if it was on before. This is more of a problem if you want to plug this heater into an external timed outlet or some sort of power switch. 3) The main part of the LED display is blue. Light Blue. I tried putting it in my bedroom but it lit up half the room after I turned off the light. Why didn't they go for red? It's so simple, but the wrong choice was made. Again, I'm pretty sure no one on the dev/dev team has ever used this thing. 4) Eco mode. You can't set the temperature in economy mode, which is very annoying. What's the point and why should I choose this mode if I can't even set the temperature? Besides, what the heck is an eco mode? It's not in the user manual. That's right, I only found one line in the instructions that says something about Eco mode, and even in that line there isn't the slightest hint as to what it is and how it works. Serious? I don't think it takes much for the heater to remember its state or temperature when I turn it off and on again. And it doesn't take too much to make me want to use it in a dark room while I sleep. And I would really like to know how each function actually works. It seems like these things should be simple, easy fixes for the development team. It's clear they don't use their own product, which is unfortunate. I will be returning this and will think twice before buying Revainbasics again. It's not worth saving $15 if I have to deal with a crappy user interface. I really hope the Revain development team takes note of this.
