Short Story, research your monitors and HDMI cable types. Good KVM for the money; Compact, can be powered from a USB port or wall outlet1. Check your monitor inputs - some standard Dell monitors have HDMI, but most have DP, DVI, and VGA2. Know Your Video Cable Types β Since KVM is HDMI, if you need to convert HDMI to DP, DVI, or VGA, you should be aware that there are active DP cables and passive DP cables. An active DP-HDMI cable or dongle is required for this KVM to work properly with a DP-HDMI cable. I bought keys and cables but forgot to check if they are active or passive. It wasn't until the parts arrived that I ordered passive DP cables; Luckily I got lucky - the keys ordered were Active.3. Sometimes a USB wireless keyboard and mouse connected to KVM does not work immediately when switching between connected computers. I solve this problem by unplugging the USB cable from the USB port on this particular computer and plugging it back in. Usually the problem is solved immediately, but I had to restart KVM when I couldn't get the keyboard/mouse to work.4. I would like to be able to turn off the *beep* when changing devices; Maybe there's a small PC speaker in there that I can turn off. lol
