I've been looking at eye wash machines for a while but ended up choosing this machine although I have some doubts about it. Unlike fixed eyewash units, this eyewash unit can be moved if you need to move, reconfigure the lab, etc. All you have to do is change the position of the wall hook, reposition the device and you're done. In addition, it is very convenient that the device includes a built-in bucket for catching the brine when the rinse is activated and a nozzle for draining it if necessary. Most other stations assume you can either tolerate wet floors or hook up a hose to the nearest sewer. Another great benefit is the saline containers, which are sealed and last at least two years. While they're expensive ($140), they also have a visible expiration date (right on the handle), which makes regulatory compliance that much easier. Replacing the canisters is relatively quick - bolts etc are required but once you get the hang of it it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. During the two years that the saline is certified, you save on labor costs compared to replacing the buffer every 3-6 months on competing products - $10-40 per item. You also don't need a log book when the containers have been replaced as the expiration date is obvious. What annoys me about this product is the cost, the usual hassle with appliances, books and other things. The market is full of gadgets being sold at a wild premium and this station is no different. You have to buy the saline separately, which means your initial cost will be over $500. And all for an (admittedly smart and sophisticated) rotomolded plastic case and two bags of saline solution that probably cost less than 1/10th the final retail price to produce. Honeywell specifically prices these devices to compete with the cost of fixed installations.
