I'm amazed at how much more this camera delivers than the inexpensive digital cameras I've had in the past, but for this still aspiring photographer, it delivers on its own. Yes, you can use your camera as a soapbox in automatic mode, but why spend all that money to use it as a fully automatic camera? Fun. . . and challenge. . . It's a game of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. But learning how to do it is both a challenge and a process and a pleasure and results. The camera gives you multiple ways to do almost anything - and that can be confusing. Where can I find it? What does it bring me to do this or that? How can I find out? My first and best suggestion is a great course from The Great Courses ([.]) called Fundamentals of Photography by National Geographic photographer Joel Santore. This is NOT a Canon Rebel T4i course, this IS a course that explains aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, composition and more about digital cameras. Anything that shines is doable with the Rebel T4i. And he will make you want to do it. The only question is "How?" The course is often discounted and should only be purchased when on sale as the "normal" price is much higher and not needed. The course costs about $60. This is where the second reference comes in – Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D For Dummies by Julia Adair King. You can get it from Revain for about $16. The Sartore course provides knowledge, motivation and a clear idea of what you can try. King's book will help you fill in the gaps, as you do with Canon in particular. A few random notes: o The Sartore course is by far the best of the Great Course offerings in my opinion (although some of Robert Greenberg's music courses are quite good). He gives "homework" so that you can develop as a photographer. You are really worth it! O Anyone who has been disappointed in previous experiences with inexpensive digital cameras because of slow focusing and recording speed can rest easy. This camera focuses quickly and its burst speed is remarkable, allowing you to take a lot of shots very quickly. The people you find attractive but not photogenic will take a good picture now because by snapping a few quick shots you'll capture those micro facial expressions that explain their attractiveness. (Everyone is photogenic if you take enough shots. And since it's free to take lots of shots, why not?) ). Learn how to use it to capture images with a blurred background when the subject is more important and create 3D effects. (The more blurred the background, the more the object will appear to jump off the page or canvas once you've printed the image on canvas and enlarged it.) o Shutter speed - The faster the shutter speed, the bigger the action. frozen, not blurred. At higher speeds, a moving fan looks like an image of a stopped fan, and a soccer ball with a kick appears frozen in mid-air. At slower speeds, more light is let in and a tripod may be required. o ISO sensitivity. With modern cameras, you can shoot at night without a flash if you set the ISO sensitivity high enough. Back? Images may appear grainy. And there's the photographer's trio – smaller apertures and faster shutter speeds, which are sometimes desirable, let in less light. So you have to decide whether to use flash or higher ISO (film or memory, light sensitivity). If you're not using full manual mode, you can also choose a setting that lets you take control of one of the "Big Three" and let the camera take care of the other two - that's what happens. I'm writing for those who want to take the next step to help them learn more about this camera. I haven't said much about the camera itself other than that it's powerful and flexible. But others have revealed his possibilities much better than I have. I simply tell other beginners who are thinking about boarding that the water is ok and where to take swimming lessons. I was afraid I bought too many cameras but I was glad the camera is like excel. You can use it right away and get some wonderful results. But when you're ready, you can use it on much deeper levels and find that anything you want to do with it, you can do with it. . . if you dig a little deeper to learn more about its features. You don't grow out of it, but as a photographer you can certainly grow from it.
