Review on Stone Beam Bradbury Chesterfield Ottoman Furniture in Accent Furniture by Philip Russell

Great price, tested and found to be real leather

I did a lot of research on this sofa before finally purchasing it. I read many conflicting reviews so I didn't know what to expect. I've had the couch for a few weeks and wanted to give a detailed report on my experience. First the most important question for me was: Is it real leather? Yes. The entire sofa is genuine leather but as it is the cheapest Chesterfield leather you can buy it is not luxury leather. There are three types of genuine leather: full grain, point grain and natural leather. Authentic is the lowest class, and that's how this sofa feels. I checked this in four ways: 1. When I removed the covers from the cushions I saw that the back of the leather was suede which is usually found on natural leather. The skin is thin but I haven't had any punctures yet. My dog's claws scratched the skin, but not deeply. If it were bonded leather then there would be a cloth backing but there isn't.2. I unzipped the flap underneath, took a very small piece of excess skin and burned it. If plastic was there it would melt and smell like nasty chemicals, but smelled like burnt hair (harsh but indicates it's real leather).3. "Press test" shows wrinkles in the skin. Faux leather does not wrinkle.4. The leather has absorbed the leather care. That wouldn't happen with faux leather. The quality of the leather matches the cost. There is some variation in appearance in different places on the couch, but this is to be expected with real leather, however some parts of the leather appear to be cut from different types or sections of animal hide. As mentioned in other reviews, skin is very dry upon arrival. I finished with a 32 ounce bottle of Lexol conditioner. I applied 2 coats: the first thick coat which I left and a second coat a few weeks later following the directions on the bottle. This has greatly reduced the dryness and the skin now looks richer, but not significantly. I tested Leather Honey on the underside of a sofa and really liked how supple it felt, but it was a lot darker. Lexol did not darken the skin and I am very happy with the result I got with it. I might use leather honey in the future because it actually moisturizes my skin a lot better. I have dark brown. I've read that the "black" version is more of a dark gray, so you might get a better "black" if you use leather honey, which is known to darken skin. The sofa was delivered in a box and appeared to be quite worn. The interior of the sofa seems ok but there are light scuffs around the base. Leather care helped. There was a slight smell when I opened the package, but that went away after two days. The legs are in a zip flap and appear to be adequate. The pads are not leather on all sides, so be careful not to let the fabric come into contact with the Velcro. The sofa feels very solid and it's comfortable to sit on and put your hands on the top of the sofa, which I like. I have fallen asleep on this couch several times now and it is comfortable. It's not plush but it's great for my preference. The style is fine, but a critical eye will reveal imperfections in the stitching, button placement, and some imperfections. This is NOT a luxury sofa. This is a good sofa that will make most people think you've lost a lot more money than you've actually lost. The skin has already started to wrinkle, wrinkle, but in my opinion this is part of the charm. Overall it seems like good value for money if you're willing to put in some effort to get it working right away.
