Inexpensive brushes with sufficient range, but STILL too expensive

First of all: These are not professional brushes. They shed bristles - a lot on first use and sometimes on later use. The selection is pretty reasonable - a couple of flat brushes, a couple of round brushes, and two fan brushes in addition to a background/wash brush - and the stiffness is about what you can and should expect from hog bristle, but these brushes are cheaply made and they aren't keep. Her shape is good after cleaning, with a few bristles that wear down easily and refuse to join the rest of the herd if someone tries to reshape them to dry. (It's important to understand that I don't handle brushes much either, as I clean my brushes with two washes and then remodel them as I paint - using only acrylics - to protect their integrity and prolong their life. .) I think this is the set is also quite expensive; I can get a set of 1-2 dozen different brushes that outperform these for a little less than the $28 I paid for them. These brushes can make a good starter kit for beginners, but they're certainly used for simple brush work (e.g. blending or applying a background color on a canvas) in favor of higher quality brushes for more general painting work and more sophisticated techniques. . Again, they're a little pricey, mostly because the hazelnut-style brushes and flat angled brushes aren't included, and the round brushes are poorly shaped and the tips are rounded cones rather than pointed. (These brushes work well with acrylic or oil paints, not watercolors.)
