Although I've bought a few of these and they seem to work well, the tire-like rubber coating isn't needed unless you plan on throwing those sensors on the ground. Bulky covers only take up additional space in the glove compartment. I removed them from all the tires I bought. The item "retains" the measured pressure reading (for easier viewing), but the valve on the stem must be used to release the stored pressure before testing the next tire, otherwise inaccurate readings may occur.
