From the packaging you know exactly how everything works. There is a switch to turn the boost on and off. I had a few channels that were difficult to see or seemed pixelated and this took care of that. I only tried this because I knew I was within range of the transmitting antenna (8 miles) but couldn't reliably pick up the local NBC station because I had to look at the antenna. Plugged in, rescanned (just in case I have some extras) and my channels are recognized perfectly! Don't bother paying extra for a device that does the same!
