LOUD POP AND SMOKE WHEN FIRST CONNECTED!

This product comes with both corner moldings. I don't know if this item has been returned before. I've attached photos, let's see if they make it into this review. I plugged it into my wall and immediately there was a very audible pop from the surge protector part (not the cable part). As if that wasn't enough, I could see smoke rising from part of the surge protector. Creepy! Luckily it worked in my house and I immediately turned it off. Luckily there were no burn marks on the floor! This item replaced a different brand surge protector I purchased from Revain a few years ago. Looks like I'll be returning to this brand! Perhaps the surge protectors have changed their markings, but it struck me as odd that this surge protector doesn't have a switch, instead it has a reset and power off switch. No instruction papers were supplied so I assumed that for normal operation it should be set like this when in the reset position and the light in the switch itself is on. UPDATE: To clarify, there were no connected devices. into the surge protector when I first plugged it in. As I put it back into the Revain return box, I could clearly hear a few small bits of metal rattling freely inside. They sounded like they were the size of a piece of rice. I didn't shake the surge protector before plugging it in to see if those pieces of metal were there before it clicked.

Pros
  • Extension cord and surge protector
Cons
  • Requires outlet
