I bought this fish finder from factory outlets on ebay for about $40+/-. When I took it fishing on the bay, I found that it didn't work at all in water depths of more than 120 feet. When the water is < 120 feet the sonar works as intended, displaying depth, temperature and key symbols to identify bottom features, large and small fish. the water temperature is just the temperature at transducer depth and the fish depth is shown on the screen in 1/10 divisions (you are calculating the fish depth, not the actual hydroacoustic picture of the bottom). I've found that if you can't get the sensor to work through the bottom of your boat there's no hope of trolling, the sensor will start dragging behind the boat and stop working if the wind pushes you too hard , not to mention what happens when you put the engine in gear. The only problem I see with this sonar from the lake shore is that the cable sinks and pulls the transducer back toward you, which the manufacturer recommended adding fish floats to the cable about every foot to prevent this. My conclusion is that if you want a fish finder in your small boat with no electrical system or for lake fishing this will work, but if you want a fish finder for a 12v boat buy a real fish finder
