I'm not a professional photographer, nor am I a serious amateur, although I take thousands of photos. I bought the A620 about 8 months ago because I wanted something small but good to go with my much larger new Nikon D50. Both cameras replaced older 3-megapixel SLR cameras from Fujifilm and Minolta. We took the A620 and D50 on a grand tour of the Canadian Rockies and several US National Parks. The D50 was my "go-to" camera for travel - honestly, I was afraid to "risk" shooting with the A620, especially as I often needed a wider lens than the A620. Then one afternoon, on top of a mountain in Jasper, with a breathtaking panoramic view, the D50's battery died. I was dejected, forced to use the A620. For the rest of the day I worried and worried that one of the highlights of our trip would not be captured on the A620. Long story short, after a few weeks I uploaded all our photos from the D50 and A620 and the ones from the A620 on this mountain were the best! I was amazed - the color got better, clearer, just better! I have complete confidence in the A620 now and actually use it a lot more than the D50 because it's so much easier to take with me. I still prefer the D50 for indoor flash photography - the A620 has a lot of red eye - but I have to say if I bought the A620 before the D50 and gave it a good test run I wouldn't mind. I don't think I would buy the D50 although I really like it. Sometimes portability is more important than you think. I bought a brand new A620 for less than $200 - it was a great deal and a great camera. I think it's especially good for people like me who probably don't get into all the nitty-gritty of settings etc but still take a lot of photos and want them to look good. However, as I have read in other reviews, both here and elsewhere, this is a very good camera even for intermediate photographers. Well done Canon! Next on my wish list: something similar to this camera, but with a wide-angle lens and a longer telephoto lens. And of course with less red eyes!
