I was so happy that it is as good as it looks in the photos - bright and sparkling. The lamp body is made of plastic, but the effect is still quite good. However, I wouldn't hold it or hang it on a ring. You can turn on just the lights and swirling snow, or turn on the music with the 3-way switch on the bottom, and it'll automatically set to an 18-hour, 6-hour cycle, which is useful. It also does not corrode batteries, but can also be plugged in. I was expecting the music to "beep" and just not kick in, but even though it's digital it's a very nice jukebox tone and the song arrangements are jukebox-style with added arpeggios and rolls to compliment each fill song. The songs themselves are about a dozen (not counting) classic Christmas carols, a nice mix of secular and religious, led by jingle bells, the mix looping endlessly. I can't imagine it's supposed to last 18 hours, but it's good for what it is. This year I've added some more Christmas decorations and stuff to try and make up for the fact that we're all stuck at home and not getting together with family (meet me in St. Louis, anyone?), and it's fitting in add some magic. Worth the price.
