Well built but loses connection to computer

The device itself is plastic but good enough to survive life on your desk or computer bag. The cable is thick and strong, but a bit stiff -- the device sticks out about 8 inches from the USB port. Might be an issue if you plan on keeping it plugged in, especially if your USB ports are on the back of your PC or iMac. If the SD card is left inserted, the device will automatically turn off at random intervals - 2 or 3 times a day. , in the middle. I don't know if it's the device or if it's a problem with my system (4-port hub on iMac).
