I remember the first time I wore the Nike Pegasus over 30 years ago. I felt like I was wrapped in a soft blanket. Since then I have had many different pairs of Pegasus, most recently a pair of the 34th version. But I am sending back these new 37s because the style is a total mess. Most importantly, this time the size was too small, too short for my foot in a style that was always the right size before. But I will not try a larger size because the other imperfections are too big and too many. Almost all of the cushioning is gone, particularly on the tongue of the shoe, which is now a thin nylon mesh fabric with even thinner material in the upper where the laces cut into the foot. Just for comparison, I put on a pair of old, vintage Pegasus 27s that I keep for gardening and found some nice cushioning material that's completely absent from the current version. Coming back to the new 37's, the heel is a mess, not just the unnecessary bow of the boot that other reviewers have noted, but the fact that it barely rises enough (other than another sharp end) to wrap my heels properly and to grip and prevent slipping. All of this looks like ways to save on material and hide it behind a new, seemingly stylish design. I have earned many miles on the Nike Pegasus but will not spend them until they are returned.
