Slim but stays in place. Not soft if that's what you're looking for. Has traction on the back like slippers. Washes fairly well - folded a bit on a long edge as I think the edges will shrink asymmetrically - doesn't affect fit and performance as it goes flat. A bit big for a Midwestern rabbit hutch (used for guinea pigs), but works. We leave it twisted on the sides at the ends. Odor is minimal, changed every 6 days and vacuumed in between. For comparison, we have two adult male guinea pigs that have a paper-lined litter box. They spend 90% of the time urinating and 75% of the time defecating, so pad use is limited. For the price it's worth it.
