This review is under development for two reasons. Firstly, we don't have an HD program yet, so we only see standard definition and DVD TV performance. What we saw was outstanding. I know HD TVs don't play standard definition either, but this TV did a very good job. The performance of the DVD was outstanding. The display wasn't fully calibrated, but black levels felt very deep (even for DLP) and colors were rich and natural. Not a lot of halos in sports programs (mainly hockey and auto racing) or action scenes. The second reason is that this is only a partial review which is much more problematic and disappointing. About two weeks after we received the device, it started shaking and would not turn on. Calls (plural) to Samsung eventually led us to a repair shop in Long Beach (about 12 miles from our home). The people there didn't speak English and it was extremely uncomfortable to try to talk to them. What I could tell was that the earliest they could call a technician to our home was almost two weeks later. Contacted Samsung who then referred us to another facility in Santa Monica who had someone at our house the next day. We were told the ballast and lamp needed replacing and that it would take 3-4 days to get parts from Samsung and we were expected to be back up and running by the end of the week. It was twelve days ago. Calls to the workshop are always the same: "Oh yes, I understand your name. One of the parts is there, we are waiting for the second. Bla bla bla. They never called us, we always have to call them. It's getting ridiculous. We received a set on April 16th and it didn't work on May 1st. That means we haven't had as much of it as we had since we bought it. We currently have a $1,200 boat anchor lying on the floor of our bedroom under the covers, patiently awaiting the arrival of two relatively mundane pieces. You know I'll post the next review later when the damn thing is up and running again. EDIT: We ended up getting a refund. Supplier's permission as Samsung was more than adamant. The exchange was not allowed, but insisted on repair. We just paid a hefty sum for a new TV and I didn't want it to be "refurbished" after less than 100 hours of use. The replacement kit provided by the manufacturer has proven to be reliable, but sometimes makes that weird buzzing sound when you turn off the device. It then enters a cycle of power cycling multiple times before finally shutting down and shutting down. Even though we bought an extended warranty, I've resigned myself to just accepting this mistake; I just don't want to deal with Samsung support again if I can avoid it.
