I had 6 inch combination squares from Johnson, Irwin and this time Swanson. The first two were heavy and inaccurate so I wasn't expecting much for $10 when I ordered this one. The Swanson is indeed "rough" as other reviewers have said, but the one I got was perfectly accurate when tested against a Starrett and two technical squares with known accuracy. No readjustment was necessary other than adding a diamond stone to soften the sharp edges, the graduations on the blade were clear and legible, the blade lock was well made, the brass lock nut was easy to hook and unhook, the blade locks securely with little effort Except for rough edges, I couldn't find anything wrong with this square. The blade set into the Johnson Square's body was sloppy and the latch did not securely lock the blade. to loosen again. The Irwin was heavy and the blade disproportionately thin and difficult to read. Swanson had none of these problems. For the money, because of the blade fit and its precision, I found the Swanson to be great value. Don't confuse Johnson with Swanson; Swanson was better in every way.
