Works well. on Measuring & Layout Tools

I'm happy with this square. It is well suited for woodworking. This is great for creating multiple labels that are the same, or aligning items so they are the same in multiple places. I even used it to line up the front rail of my new table saw, which needed to be 3/16" below the beveled edge. Just hang it to the side. Line up the ruler. Fix it and just check the guidance on both ends .and centered The customizable nature of the ruler makes it very useful.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

The best ratio of price and quality.

Man I wish I could afford another Starrett. I bought it for my tool belt. My Starrett sits in my machining closet with other precision tools. Still; We compare it to a $100 tool. The quality is the same considering the materials. The fit and finish is better than you would expect at this price point. I've used Swanson squares for many, many years and use them often for precise markings. If they weren't so damn durable I might buy a few more of these. Expect this to be the last square you buy.

Pros
  • Great for me

glaring glaring light, shaky, falling edge

having to keep trying to look at the ruler from a different angle to escape the glare of my overhead lights; Often I just don't see the measurement. Making a ruler anti-glare seems like an easy task for those who make such a tool. As other reviewers have pointed out, when I fasten it at both ends, the ruler wobbles no matter how tight I twist it. So I'm not sure if it's really square. And on the one hand that shiny finish just turns black - I think I must be crazy expecting a $10 tool to lastโ€ฆ

They can be made into a perfect square shape in 2 minutes

So many 1 stars say they are not square. What they don't know is that this style is the only type of square that can be easily adjusted and dialed into an exact squat in 2 minutes by filling in one of the two alignment guides in the sliding area. Just check YouTube. Super easy and accurate if you have a thin file. All pitches should be checked over time for changing weather and after a fall. This style is good for life. 6" is SO a useful size for marking and woodworking. Great price at $8โ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • ill thought out

Not perfect, but a gauge should be.

This is a replacement for the 6" Swanson Combo Square that I ordered earlier. The reason for requesting a replacement was that the machined cutting edge of the previous one tool was completely damaged. This is an accurate measuring tool and as such should not be speckled. There is no excuse for Revain or its affiliates to circumvent quality control protocols before allowing these types of faulty tools to be sold to customers. I wanted all the return/wait -Don't go through the game againโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Spring loaded bolt holds blade for secure and fine adjustment
Cons
  • not secure

Rough finish but precise.

I had 6 inch combination squares from Johnson, Irwin and this time Swanson. The first two were heavy and inaccurate so I wasn't expecting much for $10 when I ordered this one. The Swanson is indeed "rough" as other reviewers have said, but the one I got was perfectly accurate when tested against a Starrett and two technical squares with known accuracy. No readjustment was necessary other than adding a diamond stone to soften the sharp edges, the graduations on the blade were clear and legibleโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Impact Resistant Acrylic Bottle Handle
Cons
  • Slightly Crumpled

Big combo square for little money

As many other verified buyers pointed out in their reviews, the square wasn't square when it arrived. I expected the same and wasn't surprised to see that the Swanson combination square wasn't square. So I got a small file and took some time to set it up so that it was perfectly square. It's not a complicated process; There's a video on YouTube on how to do this, one comes to mind from John Hayes. I think it took me 20-30 minutes to set mine up because I didn't have a perfect reference squareโ€ฆ

Pros
  • 6 stainless steel blades with finely engraved black graduations including brass fittings
Cons
  • Large and chunky
