Review on Camco Self-Stor Step: Stabilize RV Steps, Prevent Movement and Swaying, Easy Storage (43671) by Jay Blo

Camco 43671 Self-Stor has a major design flaw

I purchased 2 Camco 43671 Self-Stor Step Modules for my 5 wheel trailer. They were too long so I shortened them thinking they would provide good stability when folding my camper. It was my fault - I had to send them back to Revane for a refund. The Self-Stor units have some good design ideas: 1) Length can be adjusted with the threaded adjustable leg 2) The locking clip keeps the leg under the zip step 3) The swivel/flip function places the adjustable leg under the first Step. The problem I have found with the Self-Stor is that the support leg is free to swing side to side or back and forth when it should remain upright. So when you step the RV step, the position of the Self-Stor changes with the slightest vertical movement of the RV step. The self-stor position then shifts and is no longer under the RV divide. This is especially true when the camper is parked on a concrete slab. I believe the Self-Stor support leg should be locked in a vertical position to prevent any pivoting movement. I think this will improve the product's RV tilt stability. I removed the Self-Stor blocks and constructed a step stabilizer for the RV using two 4" x 4" pieces attached to a 2" x 6" board. That works fine. While not self-retaining at the RV stage, it provides good stability. In the future I plan to modify my 2 Self-Stor units to add a vertical locking method during use. I hope this information helps someone.
