Just what the doctor ordered
If you want to mod a Mac Pro cheese grater and use NVMe with it, or if you just want a fast SSD, this is your machine. It's more expensive than the 970 Evo Plus, but it just works (macOS Mojave doesn't support Plus yet). Compared to the rotating SATA II drive that originally came with the Mac Pro, this offers a nearly 10x improvement in read and write performance. Enthusiastically recommended.
