For some reason I was expecting a more 'shiny' nylon/spandex (typical swimsuit material) but it's a very soft, good weight stretchy cotton material that isn't too hot for a spring/summer dance without being see through at all, heavy enough to look like it will hold up well in the wash and I'm not worried about that. Comfortable material is especially good for a preschooler going to their first dance class / not used to wearing dance costumes / "uniform" clothes etc. It fits well, has a modest full bum and is age appropriate (my daughter actually wanted to wear your underwear). with him and they were not shown anywhere).
