In short, the GearMo 4-Port Serial Adapter is AWESOME! I'm a professional network engineer and I often need to connect to the serial console ports on routers, switches, firewalls, etc. The RS232 serial connection is pretty much the industry standard for connecting a local console to these devices. Since I often work on multiple devices at the same time and often try to make coordinated changes across 2 or 4 devices that need to be done with relatively precise timing, this product seemed like a better option to me than moving the console cable back and forth between devices . 36-inch cables are a bit bulky when coiled, but there's plenty of headroom for connections when you're working in a data center rack. The FTDI chipset retains its Windows COM port assignment across reboots and regardless of which USB port is connected. The attached adapter is a huge improvement over the PL2303 chipset which always reassigns its COM ports. Each RS232 port is stamped with a number (1-4) to indicate which port it is. I have them mapped to COM11-14 on my system, so I could easily map a COM port to a physical port. This item also works reliably on Mac and Linux OS. or two of them to allow easy access to a terminal server connected to WiFi.
