I found myself using more detergent than usual compared to my animal print Campanelli sponges (after many years some of them eventually wore out). They didn't scratch plates, glasses, or cups; However, when I used another sponge to wipe up the water splashes on the countertop, it left water streaks and didn't pick up the water. So I'm wondering if that's why I had to use extra detergent. I love the colors, they just don't do the job I need them for. I come back and go back to my favorite brand and everything works!
