Review on Master the Art of Mechanical Construction with ROKR Building Construction Mechanical Pendulum by David Foster

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Most fun/satisfying kit I've ever made

Very good way to while away a few lazy days. We bought several sets of Rokr. But this is the best so far. The satisfaction of having a working clock after a few hours of assembly is just epic! A few tips: take your time and burrs out of the gears right away. There aren't many, but it's worth the extra time. Also spin each gear on your spindle to make sure it's not too warped. I had one that looked deformed but actually had a small gear attached to it. There were extra gears that I used to smooth out the vibrations. I used a lit Glade wax candle, then after waxing I used a blow dryer to remove/melt the excess wax, repeated the process and then hit the gear and pendulum again with the blow dryer. One flaw I've noticed is that with the mainspring gear, the lugs protrude from behind the gear and the spring can get caught on the rear protruding lugs. I then sanded so the back of the gear was smooth and the spring didn't catch on the lugs. It was easy to see that this was a problem if you let the gears fly without the pendulum, you could see the spring hitting as it hit the lugs. Align the clock. They are currently working at about 3-4 hours of the exact time. Fine tuning should help running in full wind.
