Review on Red Steel Ringside Prime Free-Standing Station For Boxing And MMA Heavy Bag Training by Kenyatae Tillo

Sturdy, large stand for home heavy bag use

I have a 150 lb heavy bag, which I'd originally planned to hang from a support beam in my garage or pergola. Well, no dice - the vibrations get transmitted into your house and eventually will shake the house apart, and I didn't want that. The 150 lb bag is too heavy for this stand - it's a no go - so I went out and got a 70 lb bag for this review. It's OK - for light punching. I also do tae kwon do - got my black belt decades ago - but I don't like trying to kick around this stand; the rigid steel posts that poke up from the base could do pretty serious damage to a bare foot that landed in the wrong place. But the stand is fairly sturdy, doesn't skid. Those posts could be used to anchor a sort of donut shaped sandbag weight that Ringside sells separately, but I didn't find it necessary. The stand bills itself as 7'11" tall - seems right - but it's sort of unwieldy and it's dang hard to maneuver it around in most normal household spaces. If you have standard height 8' ceilings you'll put a hole or a scratch on the ceilings moving this thing, guaranteed, because it's too heavy and oddly shaped to be comfortable manuevering it with only an inch leeway. Instead, I ended up setting it up on my back porch because I just couldn't spare the space in my garage. My bags are leather, which I don't want getting rained on, so there is a certain amount of hauling a bag indoors and out again; I use an outdoor table to support the bag while I'm hooking it up, otherwise I'd need a second person's help. So make sure you know exactly where this stand is going to go before you order it - the dimensions on the Ebay page are accurate.Be honest, I've kind of soured on the idea of having a heavy bag at my house. This is probably the best solution going, but it sure isn't perfect. My advice to folks who really want to pound on a heavy bag properly would be to join a gym where they have one set up already; short of that, this bag is the next best compromise that I've been able to find.

Pros
  • ‎Unisex-adult
Cons
