I was a little apprehensive about this snake as I had never used the manual version of it before. Luckily I could feel it in my hands once it arrived and it seems to me that with proper care it will last me for many years. The spool is firmly connected and when you turn the crank, you can either release it or put it back into the base, saving a lot of space in your bathroom/toilet/garage etc. I bought this to check my bathtub drain as water during shower always pools around my legs and drains slowly. My suspicion of a clog was correct, and within minutes of lowering this snake down the drain, I was able to grab a bundle of hair/soap/other nasty stuff and pull it out of the drain. I'm also very glad that a set of gloves came with it, otherwise I definitely wouldn't be able to clean the dirt off the end of the roll.
