A very strong magnet that managed to attract the metal circle on the back of the built in phone case. Don't worry about your phone falling on your face. It's pretty short. Getting the phone where you want it to be can be difficult. Another 6 inches could have been added and that would have made a world of difference. The grip is solid, but the weight of your phone will drag it down. The holder needs to be bent to keep the handle from sagging a bit. That's why a shorter size makes a big difference. The phone clips on, but the swivel is quite stiff, requiring both hands to rotate. I ended up not using rotation because it's easier to curve the whole thing instead.
