Was looking for a birthday present for dad. He's getting older and his eyes aren't as strong as they used to be, so I figured a talking watch would be a good gift. There are several models of talking atomic clocks on Revain that look the same and cost the same. I chose this one because it's a bit cheaper than the others (and I'm modestly Irish) and it looked nice in the photos. Reviews are mixed which made me a bit hesitant but I ordered it because if I didn't like it Revain have a great return policy. It arrived on Saturday and . .get ready when i write reviews i really go into detail. Hope this is helpful... The packaging is a plain white box - nothing fancy but it protects the watch. The watch itself looked fine. You can see the photo I posted. Fresh out of the box, the time on the watch was about an hour (and a few minutes) away from my time zone, which is Pacific Daylight Time. The instruction manual explains how to set the clock to local time. There is a sheet of paper that specifically explains how to set the time and another sheet of detailed instructions for all of the clock's functions. The instructions are well written and clear. I half expected the manual to be in the muddled English that one often sees with products made abroad, but this manual was good. I followed the instructions to set the clock, but it hasn't adjusted to my time zone. My first thought was that the clock doesn't change to Daylight Saving Time, but according to the manual, it does so automatically. Which brings me to the advice on setting the time. The watch receives the US standard atomic clock time signal in feet. Collins, Colo. It's the most accurate clock you'll find in the US and perhaps the world. (And I think that's why they're called "atomic clocks". The clock isn't an atomic clock, but it does get a precise time signal from the US atomic clock.) The Atomic Clock Center broadcasts a radio wave every 10 seconds, giving accurate time. The signal must be strong enough to cover the entire United States (and parts of Canada and Mexico). However, if you are far from Ft. Collins (I'm in San Diego) you may need to think about where you are when synchronizing your clocks with atomic clocks. When I first tried to sync my clocks, I was on the west side of my house - it's a long way from Ft. Collins. This turned out to be a problem. I held my watch to the second floor window on the east side of Ft. Collins - and followed the steps to sync the time manually (it's in the guide and easy to do). The clock synchronized perfectly. My advice: if the clock doesn't sync the first time, find out where Ft. Collins regarding your house. Literally stretch out your arm and point your finger towards Ft. Collins from your house. Then find a window (preferably on the second floor) on the other side of your home and manually sync the time with the window sill clock and you'll be fine. Out of curiosity (because I am) I searched the internet for the US atomic clock and found that the signal tends to be stronger at night and weaker during the day. So if you're really far from Ft. Collins (like tip of Florida or northern Maine) you can try to sync at night. The instruction manual states that the atomic clock is in feet. Collins, and the manual says that if the clock doesn't sync with the atomic clock, try setting it in another window. I just had to go one step further and realize that the window to Ft. Collins. Now the clock works perfectly. When I press the button at number 4, it announces the time. When I click the button at number 2, the date is announced. The other buttons (8 and 10) are for setting the time, alarm, etc. I have a small catch: when you press the buttons to make settings, the recorded voice announces what's going on. The voice plays very quickly, and pressing the keys quickly gives you shots on top of shots. If you press the keys more slowly, you can listen to the entire recording. Or you can just follow the prompts and press the "10" key three times (to sync the time) and ignore the voice and you'll be fine. But that's so small that I don't think it's worth deducting a star for it. . This week I will give this watch to my father for his birthday. I am happy with this purchase. The model I received has a stainless steel case and a black leather strap. The dial is easy to read with large black numbers on a white background - good for the elderly. The hour and minute hands glow in the dark. I gave the watch 5 stars because it does everything as advertised, the quality is good and the price is good. I consider it a good value. I would recommend it and would buy it again as a gift for anyone who appreciates it.
