I started a strange journey looking for a way to connect my Alienware Alpha PC to my Apple LED Cinema Display (27", 2560x1440) via HDMI only. This display can only work with ( mini)DisplayPort I'm sure anyone looking at this product will understand that it's very easy to find converters from DisplayPort (source) to HDMI (display) but not vice versa, since this device (usually signal converter) is NOT bi-directional It won't convert DP -> HDMI I convert HDMI -> DP just fine First I ordered another GoFanco (?) I think on Revain and it worked 2/10 times. I'd plug it in. I'm glad it worked the first time, it doesn't seem to matter which end you plug in first, and in my case it doesn't even need an extra USB port for power be connected. I think it is needed when the HDMI connector cannot supply enopah current to the converter. I used this passive DP > MiniDP adapter to connect to the monitor itself: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N3DTKY. Apple monitor 2560 x 1440. Not sure how much higher it is, maybe 4K if the HDMI hardware allows it. The conversion gives a perfectly clean image. FYI, this won't help you if you have a newer Apple Thunderbolt monitor. It's Thunderbolt only.
