Review on Sekonic L 358 Flash Master Light by Mark Adlesh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A must have item for all strobists.

I love artificial light in photography and have only used a constant light source for a while. Everything was fine until I decided to use flashlights inspired by the Strobist blog. While it was fun, there was no definitive way to measure/measure the incoming light before the picture was taken. Therefore, in order to get a good shot, I had to take 4-5 test shots. Also, I couldn't see the difference in performance between the main light, back light, hair light, etc. So I knew I needed a light meter that would measure incident and reflected light. I chose the L-358 based on online and Amazon reviews. Main advantages:1. Measures incident/reflected light very accurately.2. Various source selection. Natural, Flash Remote and Flash Chord.3. Optional PW support (I don't have pocket assistants but I use Cactus via chord mode)4. Fantastic averaging feature. This feature is typically found in digital light meters. But the L-358 is very accurate and comfortable to use (the object must be static)5. Two ISO modes. This feature helps a lot as I usually use two different cameras and I usually use different ISO.6 values on them. Easy to use indoors and outdoors. Improvements: 1. The ability to setting the aperture value in the flash modes and having the exposure meter show the shutter speed would be a nice benefit. However, this feature is available in daylight mode. I usually prefer to use a narrow aperture and I want to control the aperture rather than having the light meter tell me what to install. But it's not a disadvantage
