I bought Petite for my dogs. My dogs are: 1st (large clean) Chihuahua (12lbs) and 2nd Miniature Poodle mix (10lbs). Their front feet are 1.25" and their rear feet are 1" with no weight bearing. When they put their weight on the paw, it expands 0.25 inches. I bought Petite (1.25 inch) for both dogs and they are big enough. I tried 1.5 inch boots (not like that) but they were too big. The little ones are way too big for the hind legs, but it's the smallest size in "rugged" boots and they stay on their skinny legs. The bottom velcro is quite tight to keep them in place. They are a bit big on the hind feet and not ideal, but having boots on the feet on wet/snowy surfaces is great. They protect the paws from cold, moisture and chemicals. When I put boots on my dogs they make sad faces but once they start going outside they seem pretty happy. You walk on snow, cold and wet sidewalks. It was very cold with us, so the boots protect the paws. It's a great relief that I don't have to worry about salt. I tried 4 types of boots. And my dogs were able to walk without too much trouble (just getting used to - some boots were very difficult to walk on). My dogs did the booty dance for the first time, but quickly got used to it. They found it easier to practice walking outside than inside. They have been wearing them 1-3 times a day for about 3 weeks now so they are used to wearing them and are very happy with the boots. They run and jump in the snow and run better in wet areas. We are also good at adding boots to dog paws. They need some practice to get their paws in all the way and close them well. Hold the boot wide open with one hand and then slip your paw through until it touches the end and then close it. Watch out for the winning fingers! You can get caught and it will hurt. I hold their legs or hocks to guide them and push the paws all the way into the boots, then hold the paw/boot to keep the paw from moving, then fasten the bottom velcro. If the paws aren't deep in the boots, it's difficult for dogs to walk because of the gaping extra material at the toe of the boot. The pads around the opening help them stay on their feet and also keep the snow out. Please, Ultra Paws, make a smaller size for smaller paws! My dogs fit 1 inch for the hind legs, and there are smaller dogs that need good shoes! Putting on 8 paw boots is a lot of work, but it's worth it in winter weather.
