Works as advertised. Very important. I have a well set up and naturally balanced aquarium with plants. All I need is a mechanical filter and it works. I have a tank that is 16 inches high and 20g long. I only use one of the filters at a time. They can be shared. I left a black foam filter on a canister. Secondly, I replaced it with a disposable filter thread. which I use when disturbing the substrate to quickly clear the water. Otherwise I use the one with black foam. The water flow is more than adequate for the size of my tank which is on the strong side. I think it will work even better for a 30 gallon tank. In my case, I direct the flow upwards to agitate the surface, which also reduces turbulence underneath Use foam or filament filters.
