We have a finished basement that gets 60-70% humidity during the summer months. We bought this AlorAir desiccant to replace a 75 pint Frigidaire desiccant that was 3 years old. We've been using the AlorAir for just over a month and are very happy with its performance and performance. When I first turned it on, the humidity in the basement was 67% and AlorAir dropped the humidity to 50% in 30 minutes. Now it turns on about once an hour for 10-20 minutes. The loudest noise coming out of the unit is the fan, and the compressor is almost inaudible. Our Frigidaire was much louder - both fan and compressor. In addition to the noise, Frigidaire could not keep the humidity below 55% during the hottest summer and fall periods and we have air conditioning that is normally set between 71 and 74 degrees. In the colder months we don't need a dehumidifier as the humidity stays below 40%. The AlorAir is definitely more expensive than most home dehumidifiers, but it's at least half the cost of adding a dehumidifier to your air conditioner. Of course we only had AlorAir for a short time. I sincerely hope my satisfaction with AlorAir continues. For now though I would like to say this is a great product and I will never go back to a home dehumidifier.
