Hose - How to Replace

Tips for the helpless - any experienced handyman can replace the 4870 hose in minutes - here are some tips that may help the less confident. You will need a medium-sized (1/4" - 3/8") flathead screwdriver and an appropriately sized Torx (T-20) screwdriver (looks like a star). The tubing is attached proximally to a 1-inch clear plastic tubing. Notice how the small plastic tab connects to the plastic of the larger clear vertical tube in front of it. Using a flathead screwdriver, turn the plastic screw that secures it to the bottom of the vacuum counterclockwise about 1/4 turn to the open position. Pull up the bar holding the vertical tube to the top of the tube. You can now slide the vertical tube out and pull it away from the cleaner body by exposing the plastic hose guide's top hex head screw next to the large flat head screw you loosened earlier. Loosen that upper hose guide screw a few turns - don't do it. do not remove completely. Loosen the 2 torx screws on the underside of the rail a few turns (or completely). If the hose guide has just been loosened (not removed), you can thread the hose through the guide channel and insert a new one. Then re-tighten the 3 hose guide bolts, reattach the new hose to the riser, reinsert the riser into the vacuum cleaner body from above and lower the attachment rod. Use some water to lubricate things as needed as some of the fittings are quite tight. Make sure the plastic tab of the riser engages the front riser as before. Then turn the plastic screw on the bottom to the locked position to secure the bottom of the riser and you're done!
