now made from inferior materials

This is the second time I have replaced the hose. As others have pointed out, it tears where it stretches. The tape lasts for a while until the crack propagates, then it's time to order another one. Splicing a new hose is too complicated and time consuming for most people, so it's easier to just order a replacement. The product description says it is an OEM part but the one I just received is clearly not the same as the original or even a two year old OEM replacement. The fitting that connectsโ€ฆ

Lasted 17 months on vacuums and floor care

Update: Last hose lasted 17 months, broke in same place. Graphically, as an item's price increases, its lifespan decreases: 24 months, 20 months, 17 months. The Eureka Boss isn't a particularly good vacuum and these replacement hoses make me dislike it even more. Second review: Mine lasted 20 months before breaking in the same spot as the original where the hose connects to the tool coupler. . As other reviewers say, the redeeming quality is the price. I got up to a dollar a month. It's aโ€ฆ

Hose - How to Replace

Tips for the helpless - any experienced handyman can replace the 4870 hose in minutes - here are some tips that may help the less confident. You will need a medium-sized (1/4" - 3/8") flathead screwdriver and an appropriately sized Torx (T-20) screwdriver (looks like a star). The tubing is attached proximally to a 1-inch clear plastic tubing. Notice how the small plastic tab connects to the plastic of the larger clear vertical tube in front of it. Using a flathead screwdriver, turn the plasticโ€ฆ
